The most important step in caring for your carpet is vacuuming. Vacuum thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high-traffic areas. Over time, a carpet that is not vacuumed allows the soil particles to work their way below the surface of the pile where they are far more difficult to remove and can damage the fibers. Consistent vacuuming removes these particles from the surface before this happens.
Some other suggestions for taking care of your carpets:
- Use walk off mats off of entries and garages. These mats will absorb the majority of the dirt and soil from the outside before it can damage your carpets.
- Make sure you’ve chosen the proper padding for under your carpet. Certain style carpets are not designed for all types of padding. Talk to our salespeople about the difference. We’ll never recommend a pad that doesn’t work for your type of carpet.
- Have your carpets professionally cleaned. We recommend the hot water extraction method and never suggest any bleach based cleaners. Each carpet fiber is different and the hot water extraction method is a safe, effective way of ensuring your carpet fiber will not be damaged. Carpets should be professionally cleaned at least once per year, depending on the severity of the traffic. Professional cleaning will add years to your carpet purchase.
